Kumasi City Project

A CITY LIKE NO OTHER IN AFRICA

New Kumasi City will be a sustainable, ecologically sound, internationally connected city centered around the Manhyia Palace — comparable to the role Buckingham Palace plays in the City of London.

New Kumasi City is uniquely positioned at the geographic heart of Africa — making it the shortest combined distance to destinations across the globe, and a natural hub for goods distribution, transportation, and international business flowing between West and East, North and South.

THE HERITAGE

  • The Ashanti Kingdom was founded in 1670, with Kumasi established in 1680 as its capital by Asantehene Osei Tutu I.
  • Positioned at the crossroads of Trans-Saharan trade routes, Kumasi was historically a center of wealth, culture, and civilization.
  • The Ashanti people have always been a sovereign, self-determining people with a rich political and cultural tradition that continues to this day.
  • Under the leadership of Asantehene Osei Tutu II, that legacy is now being channeled into a bold, modern vision.

THE VISION

  • New Kumasi City is conceived as Africa’s modern continental capital — a city where business, culture, diplomacy, and innovation converge.
  • The project represents Asante reasserting its independence and leading the way for total emancipation.
  • The city will serve as the African headquarters for international organizations, major corporations, and diplomatic missions.
  • Development will be led by world-renowned city builders, in partnership with traditional leadership and the private sector.
